Alanis Morissette Hits Rock Bottom

May 10, 2008 at 10:00pm PST

Alanis Morissette opened up to People Magazine this week.

In a candid interview she says she's naturally optimistic but battled hard times over the last few years when she hit "rock bottom."

"I took a break over the past two and half years. I was tending to my personal life," says the singer, who called off her engagement to longtime boyfriend Ryan Reynolds in 2007.

During that time, she says she hit "rock bottom" due to "a personal unraveling of significant relationships in my life." (Morissette did not comment about Reynolds's recent engagement to Scarlett Johansson.)

Can you blame the girl? If you were engaged to Ryan Reynolds and got to see him naked every day and then you broke up, we don't think "rock bottom" would do your feeling justice. We'd be sniveling in a padded room still. Good for Alanis for pulling herself up and out of the stupor.

Our sources tell us that Alanis and Ryan's relationship was strained because she felt so insecure about being with such a beautiful man. She constantly challenged him to prove his love and devotion to her. That was one of the main strains on their time together.

We LOOOOVE Ryan and we think Alanis is the coolest. We wish they'd be able to work it out. Seeing Ryan engaged to HoJo makes us want to claw our eyes out. We can't imagine how Alanis feels.

Our heart goes out to you, girl. If you ever want to get some Ben and Jerry's and have a good cry, we're here for you.

F. Gary Gray's latest effort, Law Abiding Citizen, starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler, is a knockout! Exhilirating, wry and breathcatchingly paced, it's a stellar accomplishment for everyone involved. Hell yeah you should see it!

Scott Hicks, the director of Shine, and Clive Owen teamed up for this gloriously beautiful if underwhelming project. It's not that it's bad, it's just not that memorable and with such supreme talent attached, I was hoping for and expecting a lot more.

Oh, Diablo Cody, why'd you have to do it? I love you so long...and then you made this. Megan Fox does what she always does, she looks hot. At least there's that. Sophmoric, unfunny and obsessively idiosyncratic, it's a painful movie going experience.

Chocolate and peanut butter. Spaghetti and meatballs. Bobcat Goldthwait and profanity. Two great tastes that taste great together. Gone is the Bobcat of the Police Academy movies and in his stead is a fantastic writer-director who's able to orchestrate the most brilliantly, hilarious vulgarity imaginable. World's Greatest Dad is a fantastic dark comedy (very dark) that features Robin Williams' best performance since Good Will Hunting. See it!
