Gossip Girl would not believe it. Serena van der Woodsen herself, Blake Lively, that vivacious blonde with the warm smile, revealed to the UK Independent that in real life she is nowhere near as confident as her on-screen characters.

She couldn’t even believe it when she got a part for the film The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, co-starring Alan Arkin and Julianne Moore.

"When I got it, I felt like I fooled them," she says. She describes herself as “completely shy,” but strangely not in front of the camera.

"It's weird because being in front of the camera does make me less shy [than] when I am myself. When I have to be myself, like in photo shoots, it's just not so good," she laughs.

"I was never much of a party girl. I'm a very low-key person so I like to stay at home and bake, or just walk around the city. I'm addicted to cooking."

This is further evidence of the conventional wisdom that “most actors are shy." However, Lively can't be that shy, or she wouldn't be baiting attention by dating Gossip Girl co-star Penn Badgley, would she?

Shy actress

Great story! I'm an actress who is very bold on screen, but shy in real life :).
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever become an actress, I completely transform. In real life I don't like being the center of attention, I get lost in the background.

And no one can tell us

That's so wonderful! I really love this style.

F. Gary Gray's latest effort, Law Abiding Citizen, starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler, is a knockout! Exhilirating, wry and breathcatchingly paced, it's a stellar accomplishment for everyone involved. Hell yeah you should see it!

Scott Hicks, the director of Shine, and Clive Owen teamed up for this gloriously beautiful if underwhelming project. It's not that it's bad, it's just not that memorable and with such supreme talent attached, I was hoping for and expecting a lot more.

Oh, Diablo Cody, why'd you have to do it? I love you so long...and then you made this. Megan Fox does what she always does, she looks hot. At least there's that. Sophmoric, unfunny and obsessively idiosyncratic, it's a painful movie going experience.

Chocolate and peanut butter. Spaghetti and meatballs. Bobcat Goldthwait and profanity. Two great tastes that taste great together. Gone is the Bobcat of the Police Academy movies and in his stead is a fantastic writer-director who's able to orchestrate the most brilliantly, hilarious vulgarity imaginable. World's Greatest Dad is a fantastic dark comedy (very dark) that features Robin Williams' best performance since Good Will Hunting. See it!
