Dancing with the Stars Elimination Night Recap: Week Nine

November 19, 2008 at 7:08am PST

Before a single dancer hit the floor last night, the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, sounding incredible, sang her classic “Chain of Fools.” If ABC is going to make us sit through an hour of filler before announcing which three couples have made it to the finals, THIS is the kind of entertainment we wish we had all the time.

Following Aretha was the emerging princess of pop, Leona Lewis. She is stunning in every imaginable way: her face, her voice, her body, her hair. We love Leona!

Since dancing was backburnered last night, Julianne took the stage next to sing her new country hit “My Hallelujah Song.” The audience loved every minute even though she was flat throughout the entire thing.

Seriously, isn’t this supposed to be a dancing show? You’d never know it since John Legend took the stage next to perform “Green Light.”

42 minutes into the show, so far no dancing stars but loads of singing ones as Aretha returns to sing “Respect” while reigning DWTS champs Kristi Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas dance their asses off.

Finally, they announce Lance and Lacey are the first couple moving onto the finals followed by Brooke and Derek.

Cody and Julianne and Warren and Kym linger in the final two and our heart sinks as we realize this is probably Cody’s last moments on the DWTS stage.

The couple sent home is…

Cody and Julianne.

Which means Warren and Kym are the third couple in the finals.

As Cody and Julianne share their last dance, Cody reached out and grasped on to her ponytail, holding her close and you can see how much he treasures her. As the credits roll, they turn their backs on the camera and shake that ass one last time.

Until next week when the final three throw down for the title!

We've got our money on Brooke and Derek.

F. Gary Gray's latest effort, Law Abiding Citizen, starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler, is a knockout! Exhilirating, wry and breathcatchingly paced, it's a stellar accomplishment for everyone involved. Hell yeah you should see it!

Scott Hicks, the director of Shine, and Clive Owen teamed up for this gloriously beautiful if underwhelming project. It's not that it's bad, it's just not that memorable and with such supreme talent attached, I was hoping for and expecting a lot more.

Oh, Diablo Cody, why'd you have to do it? I love you so long...and then you made this. Megan Fox does what she always does, she looks hot. At least there's that. Sophmoric, unfunny and obsessively idiosyncratic, it's a painful movie going experience.

Chocolate and peanut butter. Spaghetti and meatballs. Bobcat Goldthwait and profanity. Two great tastes that taste great together. Gone is the Bobcat of the Police Academy movies and in his stead is a fantastic writer-director who's able to orchestrate the most brilliantly, hilarious vulgarity imaginable. World's Greatest Dad is a fantastic dark comedy (very dark) that features Robin Williams' best performance since Good Will Hunting. See it!
