Ed Westwick Soaring to New 'Heights'

May 17, 2009 at 7:53am PST

Ed Westwick is officially making the leap from TV to the big screen.

The Gossip Girl star has been cast in a film version of Emily Bronte's classic novel, Wuthering Heights. Westwick will star as Heathcliff, the brooding young man who is all but consumed by his own passion, while Bond-girl Gemma Arterton will play Cathy, Heathcliff's foster sister and love interest.

A previous adaptation of the film, created in 1939, featured Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon in the iconic roles. The makers of this version have made it clear that they want to produce a more youthful interpretation of the well known novel.

Westwick has some big shoes to fill. Do you the think the Bass-tard has the acting chops to pull it off?

Good Lord NO

A baby faced boy cannot even begin to have the smoldering sexuality that the role of Heathcliff requires. Emily Bronte would be appalled that her tale is being turned into an episode of 90210. Nobody over 15 will bother to see this.

I hope so

I hope so - it'll be interesting to see how he makes the part his own. Unfortunately, he'll probably be compared to Olivier, whether it's fair or not. Either way, Chuck Bass + Heathcliff = Hot!

Hell YES!

Hell YES he has the acting chops to pull it off.. he is going to be amazing! I'm going to read the book right now, I can't wait!!!

F. Gary Gray's latest effort, Law Abiding Citizen, starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler, is a knockout! Exhilirating, wry and breathcatchingly paced, it's a stellar accomplishment for everyone involved. Hell yeah you should see it!

Scott Hicks, the director of Shine, and Clive Owen teamed up for this gloriously beautiful if underwhelming project. It's not that it's bad, it's just not that memorable and with such supreme talent attached, I was hoping for and expecting a lot more.

Oh, Diablo Cody, why'd you have to do it? I love you so long...and then you made this. Megan Fox does what she always does, she looks hot. At least there's that. Sophmoric, unfunny and obsessively idiosyncratic, it's a painful movie going experience.

Chocolate and peanut butter. Spaghetti and meatballs. Bobcat Goldthwait and profanity. Two great tastes that taste great together. Gone is the Bobcat of the Police Academy movies and in his stead is a fantastic writer-director who's able to orchestrate the most brilliantly, hilarious vulgarity imaginable. World's Greatest Dad is a fantastic dark comedy (very dark) that features Robin Williams' best performance since Good Will Hunting. See it!
