Hilary Duff and Stan Curtis of Blessings in a Backpack went down to the New York Stock Exchange this morning to ring the opening bell.

Blessings in a Backpack is a nonprofit organization which provides weekend meals to children in need by sending them home on Friday with non-perishable food items in a backpack.

Weekend meals for a school year cost about $75 per child and participating schools have shown improved attendance on Monday and higher test scores.

Blessing in a Backpack operates in 37 schools in 13 states and has provided over six million meals since its founding in 2005.
