Didn't you think it was a little weird that Jay-Z and Beyonce weren't a part of the new "We Are the World" song benefiting Haiti? All the biggest names in music sang on it, but the couple instead went home quietly after the Grammys.
Well, now we know why.
Jay-Z said: "I applaud the efforts: [Millions have been raised] through text [donations] to Haiti. So I appreciate the efforts and everything, but 'We are the World' is [musically] untouchable like 'Thriller' is untouchable. Some things are just untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it's gonna be untouchable."
He said he preferred to do it his way with the song he sang with Bono and Rihanna at the Hope for Haiti benefit. And it sounds like maybe he was right. The New York Times called the song, which premiered during the Olympics on Friday, "big-name karaoke." Even still, it jumped to the top of iTunes right away.
