Zohan, Jon Chu and an AC/DC Update

May 28, 2008 at 11:31pm PST

We had a very eventful night.

After our sighting of the Dalai Lama (amazing), we made our way to the premiere of Don’t Mess with the Zohan (which we’ll tell you all about after we go to the junket this weekend and get a few questions answered).

We left the premiere at Mann’s Chinese and found another group of Buddhist monks (Is there a convention in town?) trying to get snapshots of Adam Sandler.

Everyone is a paparazzo these days.

Our friend Jeff was hosting a party for his super fly clothing line, Hozell, at the Standard Hotel, and – despite seemingly insurmountable fatigue – we put in an appearance. We could barely keep our eyes open and began to make an early exit, when who should we run into on the streets but JON CHU!

As in: Jon Chu, the director of Step Up 2: The Streets and the upcoming Step Up 3: 3D, and one half of our obsession, AC/DC (The Adam/Chu Dance Crew), currently battling it out with Miley Cyrus on YouTube.

Huge fan! Love him! Jon Chu is high on our list of up 'n' comers to keep an eye on!

Here’s what we learned from Mr. Jon Chu tonight:

-He only agreed to do Step Up 3: 3D if they went international, so expect Paris, London and Tokyo this time around, all in 3D, with more of the best dancing ever captured on film.

-No matter what Miley Cyrus comes back with (her response video is scheduled to drop June 10th at 7pm PST), the AC/DC Crew have innumerable boogie tricks up their sleeves. Fear not, we have several more months of sublimely supreme YouTube dance battle videos to look forward to.

-We told him we need leotards for retards because we're such a bad dancer, and he said he did too (shocking considering what an amazing dance film he made) but he just tries to have fun. He called his filmmaking process “like going to camp.”

Jon Chu was gracious, affable and utterly charming. We’ve been a fan for years, ever since we saw this short film he directed while still at USC. We're thrilled we got to talk to him tonight.

We said it before, we’ll say it again: Go get your “I’m Down with the AC/DC Crew” t-shirt at Invisiblechildren.com. The proceeds go to charity and you get to look cool!

F. Gary Gray's latest effort, Law Abiding Citizen, starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler, is a knockout! Exhilirating, wry and breathcatchingly paced, it's a stellar accomplishment for everyone involved. Hell yeah you should see it!

Scott Hicks, the director of Shine, and Clive Owen teamed up for this gloriously beautiful if underwhelming project. It's not that it's bad, it's just not that memorable and with such supreme talent attached, I was hoping for and expecting a lot more.

Oh, Diablo Cody, why'd you have to do it? I love you so long...and then you made this. Megan Fox does what she always does, she looks hot. At least there's that. Sophmoric, unfunny and obsessively idiosyncratic, it's a painful movie going experience.

Chocolate and peanut butter. Spaghetti and meatballs. Bobcat Goldthwait and profanity. Two great tastes that taste great together. Gone is the Bobcat of the Police Academy movies and in his stead is a fantastic writer-director who's able to orchestrate the most brilliantly, hilarious vulgarity imaginable. World's Greatest Dad is a fantastic dark comedy (very dark) that features Robin Williams' best performance since Good Will Hunting. See it!
