Waters: Lohan Craves Celebrity for Celebrity's Sake

April 17, 2009 at 2:32pm PST

This afternoon at the Ghosts of Girlfriends Past press junket, director Mark Waters – perhaps in a bid to drum up press for yet another unfunny, unromantic rom-com where Matthew McConaughey plays a despicable yet adored lothario – Waters was shockingly forthcoming about his opinions on Lindsay Lohan.

Waters and Lindsay worked together on both Freaky Friday and Mean Girls, making him responsible for launching her career.

“I didn’t launch [her] high enough” he said, causing our jaw to hit the floor and the room to erupt in laughter. “Sorry” he said, sounding like Gilly on Saturday Night Live.

“The issue with Lindsay is that she’s unbelievable raw talent. She’s got this natural instinct for what she does and she’s naturally kind of charismatic.

“But she’s always been more interested in the celebrity that comes from the work as opposed to the work itself.

“She’s also incredibly young. When I was 22 and 23, I was pretty much drunk all the time, only there was nobody photographing me when I was stumbling home.

“If she comes around to the idea of refocusing on work, acting, she’ll eventually come back.

“She’s going to need to prove herself. That she’s actually serious about getting back to work and have at least one movie where people say ‘She came to the set everyday and she worked really hard and she was amazing and she was a team player.’ If the movie is successful, Hollywood is interested in giving people a second chance, if they can prove they’re there to play.”

So, can we take this to mean Lindsay Lohan is drunk every day (Duh), isn’t a team player on set (double duh) and has always been more about being known than being known for being good (thanks for instilling that, Dina)?

We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again; the Sam Ronson breakup is all PR in the hopes of raising Lindsay’s star a little higher, which it did with a magazine cover and her FunnyorDie video. But that kind of stuff is never going to make her Mickey Rourke.

Lindsay Lohan: Fame Whore…

We can’t say we’re surprised.

F. Gary Gray's latest effort, Law Abiding Citizen, starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler, is a knockout! Exhilirating, wry and breathcatchingly paced, it's a stellar accomplishment for everyone involved. Hell yeah you should see it!

Scott Hicks, the director of Shine, and Clive Owen teamed up for this gloriously beautiful if underwhelming project. It's not that it's bad, it's just not that memorable and with such supreme talent attached, I was hoping for and expecting a lot more.

Oh, Diablo Cody, why'd you have to do it? I love you so long...and then you made this. Megan Fox does what she always does, she looks hot. At least there's that. Sophmoric, unfunny and obsessively idiosyncratic, it's a painful movie going experience.

Chocolate and peanut butter. Spaghetti and meatballs. Bobcat Goldthwait and profanity. Two great tastes that taste great together. Gone is the Bobcat of the Police Academy movies and in his stead is a fantastic writer-director who's able to orchestrate the most brilliantly, hilarious vulgarity imaginable. World's Greatest Dad is a fantastic dark comedy (very dark) that features Robin Williams' best performance since Good Will Hunting. See it!
