M.I.A. Gives Birth to a Son

We were terrified it was going to happen as she was performing at the Grammy Awards, but British rapper M.I.A., whose real name is Mathangi Arulpragasam, gave birth to a son this past Wednesday.

This is M.I.A.'s first child with her fiance, musician Benjamin Bronfman. The singer is due to perform "Oh Saya" from Slumdog Millionaire, which is nominated for Best Original Song, at the Academy Awards on February 22nd.

On her blog, M.I.A. wrote, "MY EARLY STAGE LABOUR KICKED IN AROUND 2 AM … MY BABY WAS BORN WEDNESDAY, HE IS HEALTHY, FINE, BEAUTIFUL AND THE MOST AMZING THING EVER ON THIS PLANET, OF COURSE IM HIS MUM!!!"

Congratulations to the new parents! There's no better way to forget those pre-Oscars nerves than by going into labor.
