Just because Natalie Portman is so smart, doesn't mean she's not an idiot.
She's been talking up Jonathan Safran Foer's new book, Eating Animals and talking about her own vegetarianism. She says, "I say that Foer's ethical charge against animal eating is brave because not only is it unpopular, it has also been characterized as unmanly, inconsiderate, and juvenile. But he reminds us that being a man, and a human, takes more thought than just 'This is tasty, and that's why I do it.'"
And then suggests a really appropriate parenthetical comparison to why table manners aren't always right when it comes to eating meat: "(e.g., I don't believe in rape, but if it's what it takes to please my dinner hosts, then so be it)."
Those are some big words. Have to say it doesn't make us want to quit meat so much though. It just makes us want to quit Portman.
