Selena Gomez just landed a new gig, and it's one that will have her helping kids instead of entertaining them.
Gomez, the 17-year-old star of the Disney Channel show Wizards of Waverly Place, has been appointed to the role of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, the youngest person ever to hold the title.
As a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Children's Fund, or UNICEF, Gomez will “use her voice, recognition and commitment to children’s issues to fund raise and educate” on behalf of the Fund.
“Every day 25,000 children die from preventable causes. I stand with UNICEF in the belief that we can change that number from 25,000 to zero," the actress, who's on her way to Ghana for her first round of field work this week, said. "I know we can achieve this because every moment, UNICEF is on the ground providing children with the life-saving assistance needed to ensure zero becomes a reality.”
Golf claps for Selena for using her fame to support a great cause!
