Taylor Swift may have taken home Album of the Year at the Grammys the other night, but she did not get high marks for her performance. The New York Times called her "painfully out of tune."
Now let's talk what really mattered at the Grammys. It wasn't the music, and it sure wasn't the awards. What was everyone wearing?
Look out for Kanye at this year's Grammy Awards, because Beyonce and Taylor Swift are up against each other once again. Beyonce may lead the pack with ten nominations, but Swift is right behind her with eight of her own. They each are nominated for Album, Song, and Record of the Year.
But where's Kanye? He was snubbed for all three, but still picked up six nominations.
Forget four minutes to save the world, last night, as Grammy producers scrambled to salvage their lineup when Rihanna and Chris Brown both suddenly pulled a no show (thanks to Chris pulling an Ike Turner), it was Justin Timberlake who stepped in and rescued them with just an hour to save the Grammys.
According to the show’s producer, Jack Sussman, during the final dress rehearsal before the show went live, word came in that both acts would be missing, leaving a two-performance void.
JT came over to him and said, “What can I do to help you?”
Last night’s Grammys was a mix of good (T.I. and JT bringing all that baby daddy goodness to one performance), the bad (when is Katy Perry’s fifteen minutes of one-hit wonderfulness going to be up?) and the ugly (Natalie Cole, we need to talk).
U2 kicks things off with “Get On Your Boots” accompanied by a jumbotron with their lyrics. “It’s Karaoke. Alright!” our friend Natalie enthuses. We lack her keenness. The Edge is still jamming but the boys aren’t in Joshua Tree anymore. They’re starting to really show their age.
She may not have sang live at the Super Bowl in 1991, but Whitney Houston did take to the stage last night at a pre-Grammy party honoring Clive Davis. And apparently she rocked it.
She's already announced that she's not going back to ex-husband and life-long bad decision Bobby Brown, and last night's performance is apparently the next step in the singer's comeback.
Yesterday, Jennifer Hudson stepped onto the Super Bowl field, making her first public appearance since the murder of her mother, brother and nephew last year.
Just seeing her brought tears to our eyes.
We can’t imagine how she’s managed to persevere through the emotional ravaging of the past few months but she looked beautiful and sang the best version of the national anthem at a Super Bowl since Whitney Houston in 1991.
All we can say is, Bravo.
