Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is urging the California state Supreme Court to overturn Prop 8, the hateful and discriminatory bill banning gay marriage that barely passed in last week’s election overturning an earlier ruling legalizing same-sex unions in the state.

Grey’s Anatomy star T.R. Knight, who came out as a homosexual man in 2007, has donated $50,000 to a campaign to keep gay marriage legal in California, following in the footsteps of Brad Pitt and Steven Spielberg.

Knight’s donation to the Anti-Proposition 8 campaign will help activists oppose a high-level state vote to ban same-sex marriages after such a ban was ruled unconstitutional earlier this year.

The donation comes days after organizers of the movement accused Hollywood stars of not doing enough for the cause.

George Takei, the openly gay actor who famously played Sulu on Star Trek, has announced he will marry his longtime partner, Brad Altman, now that California has declared the ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional.

Takei (who was recently seen on Heroes) released this statement via his blog:

Ellen DeGeneres took a moment on her talk show this morning to announce that she and longtime love Portia de Rossi are getting married now that California's Supreme Court called a ban on same sex marriage "unconstitutional."
